Instead of the usual photo collage and letter I give my mom every year (and she’s probably sick of it already; it’s my siblings’ turn to do those!) I decided to channel my “inner” graphic/typography designer and did a little typography art for her - and cooked some heart shaped pancakes and cookies! Although this “labor of love” will never sum up to the 19 years she spent taking care of me and raising me to be the best I can be. I owe my life to her.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! <3

What’s in your bag this coming June?
Make sure you’ve got a hand painted tote, air mail pencil case, a durable writing notebook and a planner - just some of the things you’ll be wanting to get at the Back to School Collection I’ll be releasing in my shop! The release date is still tentative (most likely May 19 & 26, will post an update asap) but expect these items at h.e.a.r.t.! For now, here’s a teaser. :)
P.S. Some items from Native Spirit collection are still available! Visit: http://facebook.com/heartbyabbey
Painting and Decorating

I spent the last week of April (before going to the beach) painting. Probably three to four days of imprisonment at home motivated me to experiment with my skills.
I bought a Berkeley watercolor pad (pretty inexpensive but I’m not sure if the quality is that good) a few weeks back and with that I tried to render some portraits (which…do not look like portraits at all). I don’t think I’ll ever capture the human face well, so I’d like to think my style is semi-realistic.
My first experiment was Florence Welch (with the red hair) and the second was Angel Locsin (Preview March 2012). The last one was messed up (too much water) - it’s Lily Collins. It looks nothing like the original, lol.

A few more sketches on the succeeding pages. I never got to finish them. I’ll try to when I feel motivated again.
It’s really weird how I managed to paint continuously for a long time during that week. I don’t know if I’ve learned anything from it but it was the most silent week of my life. I barely spoke, barely went out of my room and spent most of the time listening to music while painting.
Speaking of my room,

My sister and I are in the works of fixing and decorating it. Finally, after ages of it being a stock room, I got sick of its dirty and unkempt state and decided to do something about it.
We’ve only finished decorating the shelf, though! I hope it would be done as soon as possible so we can have our own space again.
May’s here and it’s pretty weird how school’s going to start again. For now I just want to live in the moment and make things work out before other hindrances (like school) get in the way.

You might have been wondering what I’ve been doing for the past days.
Well, I spent most of my time painting (three days now), secluded in my room, with music at times, at times in silence. It’s been great, actually. Instead of using the laptop 24/7, I have succumbed to be traditional and paint instead. Hopefully I’ll get better. I’ll show you a few WIPs in the coming days.
In other news, I’m in the works of editing my layout (and I will accept commissions for banners!), and I’m also working on a DIY to be posted soon so watch out for that! I’m also in the process of doing design drafts for a certain project I’m working on. More on that very soon.
Native Spirit collection will also be released this week. Check out my shop for more details. My shop will also be collaborating with one of my favorite artists this week. Keep posted on that too! :)

Navajo
My first legit painting/artwork for 2012!
I had quite a lot of mistakes though. I still need to work on the skin color and shading.
Speaking of Navajo, I’ll be releasing a bohemian-inspired collection over at my shop next week. I’ll post some teasers soon. For the meantime, here’s the finished work from yesterday’s WIP post.

I’m starting my summer with painting. I’ve always loved painting before all my other hobbies came into the picture so it’s really a refreshing feeling to get back to my roots. Oh, and I’m also working on my portfolio, so I will try to paint more often.
Here are a few photos. I’ll post the final artwork once I’m done. :)
